Affairs of the Vine - 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Shootout

Here’s how we scored:

2011 Écluse “Ensemble” Lock Vineyard

Double Gold Medal - 4 Hearts, “Love at first sip!”

Female: Inviting dark berry aroma with a rich and smooth entry full of blackberry, cassis, tobacco, spice, and vanilla drenching the palate. Nicely balanced too!

Male: Nice shiny garnet color. Ripe nose full of raspberry and chocolate. Very round on the palate with great texture and creaminess. "I really like that the oak isn't overbearing." Nice berries and mocha finish. Great balance.

2010 Écluse Cabernet Sauvignon RESERVE Lock Vineyard

Gold Medal - 4 Hearts, “Love at first sip!"

(Not yet released, but stand by as we plan on releasing it later this year!)

Female: Deep red/brown in color. Sweet smoked red cherry aromas with earthy mushroom and mineral notes. Cherry and rhubarb flavors merge with pepper and cinnamon notes on the palate in this balanced taste experience distinguished by smokiness.

Male: Dark chocolate and cherry aromas with added plum and brown spice notes. Vibrant acid shows through. The palate dances with fruit and lovely spice.

2011 Écluse Cabernet Sauvignon Lock Vineyard

Silver Medal

Female: Tart fruit compote aromas. Round and full cherry pie, currant and raspberry flavors with black tea spiced accents. Bright and lively. Elegant.

Male: Cassis, clove, and tobacco aromatics. The palate replicates the aromas. Nicely balanced wine.
