2011 Ensemble Paso Robles

Rating: 90

Bright purple. Smoky blackberry and plum compote aromas are complicated by notes of smoky herbs, licorice and a dusting of cracked pepper. Energetic dark berry flavors are brightened by tangy minerality and supported by fine-grained tannins. Finishes with very good lift, liveliness and lingering sweetness.

Vivid purple. Textbook cabernet aromas of red- and blackcurrant, cured tobacco and cedary oak. Smoky dark berry flavors show a refreshingly bitter quality and a hint of dried rose. A vanilla nuance appears on the finish, framed by fine-grained, dusty tannins.
